Lydela and Michel Nóno formed Las Nietas de Nóno in San Anton, in Carolina a working-class neighborhood in Puerto Rico. The sisters now live in the house that formlery belonged to their grandfather Nonó and which is called Patio Taller today. The house is now their living and working space and at the same time a space that serves as a communal gallery and international artists’ residency. Moreover it is a place for producing, cooking, and sharing food through informal gatherings.
For the 10th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, the Volksbühne Pavilion features the artistic project Ilustraciones de la Mecánica by Las Nietas de Nonó that considers the historical location and includes a malleable installation open to public participation. Here, performances and other durational actions take place over the course of the 10th Berlin Biennale.
